Main components of aluminum hydroxide filler
Aluminum hydroxide filler is mainly used as flame retardant, papermaking filler, chemical raw materials, etc. Its composition mainly includes alumina, basic hydrated magnesium carbonate and magnesium oxide.
1. Aluminum hydroxide filler exists in the form of magnesite in nature, and its mining process is the same as that of general minerals, including crushing, grinding and grading. It is mainly used in cement, rubber products and paper. Although some natural aluminum hydroxide fillers with a magnesium carbonate content of up to 45% have certain applications in Europe, they are rarely used directly in coatings in North America.
2. Aluminum hydroxide filler is also called light magnesium carbonate. The dolomite ore is calcined, the oxides remaining after removal of CO2 are suspended in water, and then CO2 is introduced to selectively precipitate calcium carbonate. Meanwhile, the aluminum hydroxide filler dissolves magnesium hydroxide to produce an acidic carbonate, the filtrate is heated to precipitate a basic magnesium carbonate, after further heating, CO2 is removed, and the basic hydrous magnesium carbonate is filtered, dried and ground.
Aluminum hydroxide filler can be used as a neutral detergent in rubber, and can also be used in printing inks and coatings. It is calcined with alkaline hydrated magnesium carbonate or crude dolomite ore. It is used in rubber and cement, but rarely in paint.
